1953 - Gordonoff in Canada

Post by wendy »

In 1953, the 19th International Physiological Congress was held in Montreal, Canada (September 1-4). McGill University and the University of Montreal were hosts to more than 2,000 delegates from 48 countries. More than 700 scientific papers were delivered during the four days of scientific sessions.

Prof. Gordonoff from Switzerland was at the Congress and spoke about fluoridation and his findings on the effects of fluoride on thyroid disease.

The Canadian Press (CP) reported about this the following day.

FLUORIDATION RECEIVES SETBACK

Montreal (CP) - Fluoridation which has won wide acceptance as a preventative of tooth decay in children, received a setback Friday at the 19th International Physiological Congress.

Dr. T. Gordonoff of Bern, Switzerland said fluoridation of drinking water tends to aggravate thyroid conditions in people afflicted with Goiter.

Dr. Gordonoff said he has already recommended to Swiss health authorities that they stop fluoridation. He said he bases his findings on extensive experiments with rats having known thyroid conditions.

The experiments showed that the rats' thyroid metabolism decreased anywhere from 30 to 40 per cent after being subjected to fluoridated water.
