Myocarditis/Pericarditis
© 2021 PFPC

Myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle, and pericarditis is inflammation of the outer lining of the heart. Myopericarditis is a combination of both. (Pericarditis with concurrent mild myocardial involvement, documented by elevation of biomarkers of myocardial damage, such as increased C-reactive protein (CRP), troponins, IL-6, TNF-α, VCAM-1, etc.).

Myocarditis has been observed in children suffering from COVID-19 (de Cevins et al., 2021; Erol et al., 2021) as well as after vaccinations with Pfizer/Moderna vaccines (Verma et al., 2021; Kim et al., 2021; Montgomery et al., 2021; Koizumi et al., 2021). It develops often in young, seemingly healthy men.

A recent study with a mouse model has shown that myopericarditis can be produced consistently with intravenous (IV) injection of the mRNA vaccines. A second dose - given either as IV or intramuscular (IM) injection, further aggravated the condition (Li et al., 2021).

Fluoride

Myocarditis has been observed in fluorosis and after organic fluoride poisoning (Ma et al., 2019).

Thyroid

Low FT3, commonly observed in COVID-19 and identified as a biomarker for disease mortality and severity, increases the risk of adverse cardiovascular events in adult patients with acute viral myocarditis (Zhao et al., 2019). Myocarditis is also observed in autoimmune thyroid disease (Wu et al., 2021; Lorin et al., 2003).

"We now report that transient, modest expression of a hemagglutinin (HA) epitope-tagged, constitutively active mutant of the Gq alpha subunit (HAalpha*q) in hearts of transgenic mice is sufficient to induce cardiac hypertrophy and dilatation that continue to progress after the initiating stimulus becomes undetectable. At 2 weeks, HAalpha*q protein is expressed at less than 50% of endogenous alphaq/11, and the transgenic hearts are essentially normal morphologically. Although HAalpha*q protein declines at 4 weeks and is undetectable by 10 weeks, the animals develop cardiac hypertrophy and dilatation and die between 8 and 30 weeks in heart failure. As the pathology develops, endogenous alphaq/11 rises (2.9-fold in atria; 1.8-fold in ventricles). At 2 weeks, basal PLC activity is increased 9- to 10-fold in atria but not ventricles. By 10 weeks, it is elevated in both, presumably because of the rise in endogenous alphaq/11. "
