Abstract: Objective To find out the urine fluoride concentration levels in workers exposed to organic fluorine. Methods The urinary fluoride was detected by PXJ-IC^+ ion-meter and fluoride ion by electrode methed. Results The urine fluoride concentrations in control group showed skew distribution. The percentile of urinary fluoride concentrations (P2.5 - P97. 5 ) in control group was 0. 23 to 2.27 mg/L. The mean urine fluoride concentration of 656 workers exposed to fluorine ( 1.08 mg/L) was significantly higher than those of the control (0. 90 mg/L) (P 〈0. 01 ). The mean urine fluoride concentration of male was higher than that of female(P 〈 0. 01 ). There was no significant relationship between urine fluoride concentrations and age or length of service, but it seemed that the urine fluoride concentrations figured on a rising trend along with the increase in length of service. Conclusion There were significant differences in the urine fluoride concentration between workers exposed to organic fluorine and the control. There was correlation between the urine fluoride concentration of workers exposed to organic fluorine in sexes, but no significant correlation in age and length of service. The authors suggested that the upper limit of normal range for urine fluoride concentration was 2. 3 mg/L.

Summary: The urine ALP activity of 183 workers exposed to organic fluorine was measured, and the results showed that the urine ALP activity of workers exposed to organic fluorine for a long time was significantly higher than that of the control group without fluorine exposure. The urinary ASP activity of female workers was significantly higher than that of men, and there were differences in urinary ALP activity between different types of work. The urinary ALP activity of workers in polymerization and pipe pushing was higher than that in monomer. However, there was no significant difference in urinary ALP activity at different ages and working years. The results suggest that long-term exposure to organic fluorine can cause certain damage to workers’ kidneys.

Abstract: The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities in urine in 183 workers exposed to organicfluoride were detemined. The results showed that the urinary ALP activities in workers exposed to organic fluoride for 1 to more than20 years were significantly higher than theseof non-exposed control group. The urinaryALP activities in female workers were signifi-cantly higher than that of male workers. Sig-nificant differences in ALP activities were fo-und among different types of work. The ALPactivities in urine showed no change among the different ages or the different periods of service. The results indicated that the long-term exposure to organic fluoride might cause kidney damage of the workers.
