Rs 10 lakh released for safe drinking water

CHIKAMAGALUR: To provide fluoride free drinking water through rain harvesting method to 194 houses out of the 400 houses identified in the various villages of the district where the fluoride contents was more than the required percentage, the ZP has so far spent Rs 10 lakh, said ZP deputy secretary Anjanappa.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday he said, the government had released Rs 10 lakh in the first phase and another Rs 10 lakh requested to be released in the second phase, he informed.

He said 10 houses in Chikmagalur, 80 in Kadur, 10 each in Koppa and Mudigere, 20 in Narsimharajpura and 64 houses in Tarikere taluk had been given financial assistance to implement the rain harvesting system in their houses.

Remaining 206 houses would be provided the necessary assistance to implement rain harvesting method immediately after receiving the second instalment from the government, he said.

To provide safe drinking water for the school children was under progress. Out of the 669 schools as many as 283 schools have already successfully implemented the rain harvesting method in their schools, he said.

He said the government had released Rs 128 lakh for the implementation of rainwater harvesting in all the school of the district. So far Rs 118.77 lakh have been utilised under this programme, he informed.
