"ProMOS reports industrial accident at Taichung 12-inch fab; company stresses no operations will be affected"

DigiTimes.com - February 21, 2006

Leading memory maker ProMOS Technologies reported an industrial accident occurred at its Taichung 12-inch fab (Fab 3) on February 20, with two engineers being burned by hydrofluoric acid during examination of new equipment in the clean room.

ProMOS posted a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) indicating that no production and operations will be affected by the incident.

The two injured engineers examined the number 007 equipment at the 12-inch fab clean room during midday yesterday and incorrectly injected hydrofluoric acid into an uninstalled machine causing leakage and the resulting accident, according to an official from the Council of Labor Affairs as cited in a Chinese-language Apple Daily News report.

In addition to the announcement posted with the TSE, ProMOS company vice president of sales and marketing group Ben Tseng was cited by the Apple Daily News as saying that the two sets of equipment that the engineers examined were for wafer polishing and these pieces of equipments will only start being operated in the second quarter.

In related news, ProMOS’s board of directors approved a fund raising plan via a share issue yesterday. One billion shares will be released priced at NT$10 per share, and the shares will be processed in the second half of this year.
