GlaxoSmithKline faces suit over Paxil drug
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES - Aug. 4, 2006
GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) faces a lawsuit alleging an infant was born with a heart defect because his mother took Paxil during the first trimester of her pregnancy.
The law firms, Robert Kwok & Associates LLP and Clark Depew & Tracey LLP, are seeking other parents whose children may have developed heart defects after being exposed to the antidepressant in utero.
"The FDA has recently upped the warning from a category Co to a category D, warning pregnant mothers that taking Paxil more than doubles the risk of a heart defect in their baby," Robert Kwok said in written statement.
A GlaxoSmithKline representative couldn't be reached for comment on the suit, which was filed in Brazoria County, Texas.
