Three-wheeler bikes distributed to fluorosis victims in Nalgonda

Explaining the measures to be taken up for mitigation of fluoride issue, Uppal said health camps would be conducted at all fluoride affected villages to extend medical support to fluorosis victims

Nalgonda: Nalgonda District Collector Gaurav Uppal on Monday distributed three-wheeler bikes to seven fluorosis victims at a programme at Collectorate in Nalgonda.

All the seven fluorosis victims, who received the three-wheeler bikes, belong to Kudabakshupally village of Marrigudem mandal in Nalgonda district.

Kudabakshupally is one the most fluoride affected villages in the district as the fluoride content in the groundwater there was 6 ppm. In a phased manner, three-wheeler bikes would be distributed to fluorosis victims in other villages also.

For purchase of three-wheeler bikes, the Collector had sanctioned Rs 5 lakh from his Crucial Balance Funds. The Collector said measures would be taken up to improve the health conditions of fluorosis victims in the district. Simultaneously, steps would be taken up to permanently solve the fluoride menace in the district. As part of it, the works of Mission Bhagirataha were on progress to supply safe drinking water from Krishna river to the fluoride affected villages first.

Explaining the measures to be taken up for mitigation of fluoride issue, Uppal said health camps would be conducted at all fluoride affected villages to extend medical support to fluorosis victims.

Stating that consumption of some variety of fruits would reduce effect of fluoride, he added that saplings of such trees would be distributed to people in the affected areas.

At the same time, special programmes would be conducted to create awareness among public on precautionary measures to get rid of side effects of fluoride. He urged people living in fluoride affected areas to consume leafy vegetables and fruits to minimise the effect of fluoride.

Joint Collector C Narayana Reddy, District Revenue Officer Kheemya Naik, District Rural Development Officer R Anjaiah, Rural Water Supply Executive Engineer Papa Rao, Jala Sadhana Samithi president Duscharla Sathyanaraya and others were also present.
